When is Leadership Advantage 2008?

Leadership Advantage 2008 will take place from Thursday August 7th - Sunday August 10th.

When is my application due?

Applications are due by Friday July 18th.

Can I apply online?

Yes.  The entire application may be be completed online including submitting the letter of recommendation and a scanned image of the high school transcript.  It is also possible to complete the application online and mail the letter of recommendation and high school transcript.  Either way will be acceptable.

Where will my money go?

The $60 participation fee will be used to help fund your housing, food, materials, and
various activities (see Agenda) for the week.  The fees are subsidized by funding from U of L student life and various other sponsors from registered student organizations on campus.

Where will I be staying?

Students will be staying in Center Hall which is located on the west side of campus in the Center Complex of dorms (West, Wellness, and Center Halls).  Participants will be paired with a roommate for the duration of the Leadership Advantage program.  Our
facilitators and coordinators will also be staying in the dormitory with the participants.
Males and females will reside in separate quarters.  The rooms are air-conditioned.

What do I need to bring with me?

Items you should bring with you to Leadership Advantage:

• Casual clothes (shorts, T-shirts, jeans, and other casual attire)
  
• Light jacket in the case of rainy weather
• Personal items (such as a tooth brush, wash cloth, towel, soap…etc)
• Sleeping bag or sheets and a pillow (You will be in a dorm bed but a sleeping bag or sheets and a pillow will be needed)
• Alarm clock
• A little spending money, although all expenses are included in
  your registration, bring some spending money for trips to the campus
  bookstore, incidentals and snacks
• Camera (optional)
  

What not to bring to LA:

• Drugs or alcohol - There is no room for these items within our program (you will be asked to leave if these items are brought)
• Laptop computers (free time is spent getting to know the other participants...not for surfing on the web)
  

How many people attend Leadership Advantage?

We expect anywhere from 25 to 35 students to sign up for the
seminar.  Among these students, you are certain to find several friends you
will keep for the duration of your college career. We cannot exceed 35
participants this year.

My best friend was accepted and I really want to go too but I have a 2.6785 GPA in high school. Can I petition my way in?

We will consider all petitions, some things a 1-2 page petition should include:

• How do you plan on managing your time in college to stay on top?
• How do you believe Leadership Advantage will have a positive influence on your college career?
• In high school, what sports and activities did you participate in?
• In high school what classes did you excel in?
